Welcome to the Governor’s page where you can find out more about the Governors and the work we do.
Town Junior School is part of the Plantsbrook Learning Trust. The Learning trust is governed by a board of trustees. Each school, Plantsbrook and Town Junior School has its own Local Governing Boards who are accountable to the board of trustees.
The Local Governing Boards work closely with the Head Teachers and senior leadership teams and have responsibility for strategic planning and policy development. They have legal duties, powers and responsibilities that they exercise as a body, and they do this by:
- Monitoring the performance and progress of the children.
- Working with the staff to help them teach and care for the children, and planning, so that the performance of the children and the school continue to improve.
- Deciding on how the resources of the school are best used.
- Asking challenging questions of the leadership team whilst at the same time offering support, advice and information.
- Requiring the Head Teacher and staff to be accountable.
- Having responsibility for finance and safety of the children.
I am extremely proud to be the Chair of the Local Governing Body for Town Junior School; I am also a trustee of the Plantsbrook Learning Trust.
For many years, I was the Head Teacher of Holland House Infant School and Nursery and during this time I trained as an Ofsted inspector and carried out several inspections. I feel I have the skills necessary to support Town Junior school on its journey to become a “good” school and beyond. I have with great pride seen how the school has improved over many years, as an ex colleague of Mrs Smith and a friend of the school. I also feel I know the children, parents/carers and the community well, which is a bonus.
I am ably supported on the Local Governing Body by Rachel Bryant who is the Vice Chair. Rachel has a child in Town School and an older daughter at Plantsbook School, so is often seen “at the school gate doing the school run”! She is happy to speak to you then. Please note all other Governors and Trustees are listed below and they too have very many skills which they bring to the board.
We can be contacted through the school office if you wish to speak to us about strategic aspects of school life. Please remember that if you have a question about your child or about the day to day issues in school then that is a matter for the teacher or Head Teacher in the first instance.
If you wish to a make a formal complaint you need to follow the PLT Complaints Policy. This document is available on the school website or by contacting the school office.
I look forward to working with you and your children as they progress through Town Junior School and for many, into Plantsbrook Secondary School. Please look out for regular Governor updates which I have asked Mrs Smith to put on the school newsletters and through the Governor Grapevine.
